DROID icon DROID (Digital Record Object Identification)

A file format identification tool developed and maintained by The National Archives of the UK. DROID performs automated batch identification of file format. DROID uses internal signatures to identify and report the specific format versions of digital files. These signatures are stored in an XML signature file, generated from information recorded in the PRONOM technical registry.

JHOVE icon JHOVE

A tool developed by Harvard University Library and the Open Preservation Foundation. JHOVE provides functions to perform format-specific identification, validation, and characterization of digital objects.

Tika icon Apache Tika

A characterisation and text extraction tool developed and maintained by the Apache Software Foundation. detects and extracts metadata and text from over a thousand different file types (such as PPT, XLS, and PDF). All of these file types can be parsed through a single interface, making Tika useful for search engine indexing, content analysis, translation, and much more.
